1. Go Fishing at the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve. The manmade lake boasts some of the best fishing in the state. It's listed as number 15 in the 1998 book, “Gone Fishing: 100 Best Fishing Spots in New Jersey” for its abundance of bass, black crapple, pickerel, carp, catfish and perch.

3.  Got an outdoorsy dad? Try swimming, hiking and a picnic at Darlington this Father’s Day. Darlington County Park, Mahwah; Swimming is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Park closes at 8 p.m.

4. Take a Family Walk. Enter the charity Rebuilding Together Father’s Day 5K at Saddle River County Park on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. to help “preserve and revitalize” low income housing. Or enjoy a Father's Day Hike  at the New Jersey Audubon Society’s Weis Ecology Center, 150 Snake Den Road in Ringwood. The 2- to 3-mile hike through the Norcin Green State Forest is free for Fathers, $5 for members, $8 non-members.
