Two Bergen Community College Women Honored As 'Leaders In Commerce'

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey has recognized two Bergen Community College leaders as part of the group’s annual “enterprising women in commerce” program.

Recognizing the exemplary contributions of 43 women in a dozen industries – including higher education – Bergen Assistant Vice President of Information Technology Nishika Gupta and Director of Community Affairs Tracy Miceli each received their awards at an August 13 breakfast hosted by CIANJ.

“They are true role models for us all,” CIANJ President Anthony Russo said. “We always look forward to hosting this event and sharing their stories of success.”

Bergen President Eric M. Friedman, Ph.D., attended the event to support Bergen’s honorees.

“Nishika and Tracy show incredible leadership by developing outside-the-box solutions with creativity, ingenuity and persistence,” he said. “I am proud of their recognition and honored to work beside them as colleagues.”

In her 18 years at Bergen, Gupta has modernized the institution’s information technology resources through a comprehensive digitization strategy. Her initiatives have allowed the College to sunset many paper forms, records and documents, enhancing efficiency. Gupta also serves on the president’s extended cabinet and as a co-chair of the All College Forum, an important function of the institution’s participatory and shared governance structure.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
