Bridge and Tunnel Maintenance; New Traffic Patterns on Rt. 17
$4.8 million Summit Avenue project continues

The New Jersey Department of Transportation implemented new traffic patterns last week as the project to replace the South Summit Avenue bridge above I-80 and Route 17 southbound continued.
The NJDOT contractor shifted travel lanes to the west side of the bridge and started demolition and construction on the east side, leaving one lane in each direction.
The Route 17 northbound ramp to South Summit Avenue, the South Summit Avenue northbound ramp to Route 17 northbound and the South Summit Avenue southbound ramp to Route 17 remain closed. While the ramps are closed, motorists should take the following detours:

- Route 17 northbound motorists destined for South Summit Avenue will continue to Essex Street southbound to South Summit Avenue.
- South Summit Avenue northbound motorists destined for Route 17 northbound will continue to Essex Street northbound to Route 17 northbound.
- South Summit Avenue southbound motorists destined for Route 17 southbound will continue to W. Pleasant Avenue to Route 17 southbound.
- Mary Street motorists will take South Summit Avenue to Standish Avenue to S. Prospect Street to Mary Street.
The $4.8 million project will replace the existing bridge, resurface the roads approaching the bridge, install a new signal on the Route 17 northbound ramp to South Summit Avenue and install new sidewalks, lighting and guide rail. All lanes on I-80 and Route 17 will stay open during daytime and peak hours.
The project is scheduled for completion in November.

Rail Alert
All trains at the Mahwah NJ Transit station will arrive on the inbound track Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Traffic Alerts
The lower level of the George Washington Bridge will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning for work to rehabilitate the upper deck.
The New Jersey-bound north tube of the Lincoln Tunnel will be closed Monday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for maintenance. Customers can access the tunnel via the center tube using entrances at 36th Street and 9th Avenue or 30th, 31st or 33rd streets between 9th and 10th avenues. One tube of the tunnel will be closed to traffic Tuesday to Thursday from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning for maintenance. Two additional lanes in each direction will be closed at 12:30 a.m., leaving one lane in each direction available.
One lane in each direction of the Holland Tunnel will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following morning for maintenance.
