BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 122-year-old bridge in Bergen County will finally reopen to vehicles on Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new Passaic Avenue Bridge in Lodi has already reopened to foot traffic, and will reopen to all traffic following a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. involving local officials.

The bridge opened in 1903 and helped carry vehicles over the Saddle River in the growing industrial area. It's been repaired several times, but this time, it was demolished and replaced.

Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners, and Lodi Mayor Scott Luna will hold the ceremonial ribbon-cutting to celebrate.

The event marks the completion of the $3.8 million project to replace the bridge, originally constructed during President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration.

The new bridge features wider travel lanes, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and modern flood resilience measures, "ensuring a safer and more reliable crossing for the nearly 10,000 vehicles that use it daily," noted a Bergen County spokesperson.

The bridge is located at 10 First St, Lodi.

In 2024, the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County said in a memo to employees, volunteers, renters, and Bingo fans that they'd have to use detours to get to the Lodi Clubhouse for events. READ MORE: Bridge Reconstruction Could Take Year
