'Close-Knit' Softball Team Wins Second-Straight League Championship In Wyckoff
A mayoral proclamation was presented to the Tigers for their commitment to selfless team play and outstanding softball skills.
WYCKOFF, NJ — Despite pulled muscles, bruises and overall exhaustion, the Wyckoff men's softball team, the Tigers, ranging in age from 30 to 60, competed two to three times a week for three months, a proclamation from the township said earlier this month.
"By virtue of their commitment to selfless team play and outstanding skills," the team captured its second-straight Wyckoff softball league championship in August with a 7-2 win in the final game of the double-elimination tournament, said Mayor Rudolf Boonstra, who read aloud the proclamation at the Oct. 18 council meeting.
Rounding out the season with an overall record of 11 wins and four losses, the close-knit Tigers thrived, Boonstra said, in large part, because of a "strong chemistry on and off the field." In fact, the team, Boonstra added, includes two father-son duos, all of whom have been part of the league since its inception.

Boonstra congratulated the Tigers on their success and thanked them for showing sportsmanship to teammates and opponents, and for illustrating the rewards that can be achieved through "commitment to diligence and pursuit of excellence."
