Candelight Vigil for Victims of Drunken Drivers

The county will hold a candelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. today at 1 Bergen Plaza, Hackensack, in memory of the victims of drunken driving crashes.

The vigil is an annual tradition. Family and friends of those who have been killed or injured in DWI crashes gather in their honor. A candle is lit in memory of each victim whose name is added to a scroll. As the scroll of names is read, the Bergen County Police Office of Highway Safety will join in the remembrance with a police vehicles pass-in-review.

"We should always remember those affected by the tragedies caused by drunken driving," said Bergen Prosecutor John Molinelli. "A remembrance vigil such as this reminds us of the danger of impaired drivers, which unfortunately increases during the holiday season."
