A proclamation was presented to Wyckoff emergency responders for the rescue of a driver who was entrapped after a single-vehicle crash.

WYCKOFF, NJ — First responders in Wyckoff received recognition from the township for their heroic acts of courage in the rescue of a heavily entrapped driver from a car that wrapped around a tree in an Aug. 22 incident.

During Tuesday's township committee meeting, Mayor Rudolf Boonstra presented a proclamation to public safety dispatchers, law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services acknowledging their dedication and commending them for their service, bravery and fortitude.

The proclamation referred specifically to a crash on Franklin Avenue, where emergency personnel saved the life of a seriously injured 18-year-old driver after the car struck a tree.

Boonstra, by means of the proclamation, said the "quick actions" of emergency services in completing a complex extrication and "rapid removal" of the entrapped driver produced a result that saved the patient's life.

"First responders in Wyckoff are the best trained in the area," Boonstra added after reading the proclamation. "If you see them in action, you will understand."
