Flu Vaccines Available

The NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission is holding flu clinics around the county

Local residents looking to protect themselves from the flu this year can attend one of several upcoming local flu clinics being held by the NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission.

The Wyckoff Board of Health will be holding its annual Flu Vaccination Program on Thursday, Oct. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. at Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church. Only individuals 18 years and older will be able to receive the flu vaccine. The vaccine is free for anyone with Medicare Part B and $25 for everyone else.

In addition, the following resources will be available at the fair: health education, blood pressure screening, nutritional education, balance and fall risk assessment, body alignment, diabetes screening, home care and community resources, physical therapy counseling, social worker/elder care, mental health/stress management, depression and anxiety disorder screening and prescription counseling.

As many as 20 percent of Americans catch the flu each year, according to Dawn Snyder, health educator for the NorthWest Bergen Regional Health Commission. 36,000 people die from the flu each year.

The Commission serves as the health department for Wyckoff, Waldwick, Midland Park, and many other local municipalities. They contract with several other area towns for services like the annual flu clinics.
