Franklin Lakes Teen Arrested for Driving ATV with Toddler, Fleeing from Police

The 18-year-old was charged with obstructing the administration of justice, resisting arrest, operating an ATV on a public street, and more.

Police say an 18-year-old was arrested last week after allegedly having a toddler on board while driving an ATV and fleeing when police arrived.

Franklin Lakes Police received a report of an individual operating a quad all-terrain vehicle with a 4-year-old child on Bentley Drive just before noon on March 5, according to Franklin Lakes Detective Lieutenant John Bakelaar. But upon police arrival, the driver, Grant Mather, 18, of Franklin Lakes, fled on foot and was later arrested at his residence after resisting arrest.

Mather was charged with obstructing the administration of justice, resisting arrest, operating an ATV on a public street, operating an ATV without a helmet, operating an ATV on public property without consent and operating an ATV without insurance or registration, Detective Lt. Bakelaar said.
