RIDGEWOOD, NJ – Shoppers at local Kings Food Markets can help hundreds of families in Newark’s South Ward enjoy a traditional holiday meal on Thanksgiving Day.

Between Nov. 1 and 4, patrons can purchase a $12 pre-assembled bag of classic side dishes, such as stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. For each bundle sold, the grocery chain will donate a turkey, foil pan and gallon of water to make up to 400 family’s holiday more special, according to Kings.

The Kings Act Against Hunger drive is being coordinated through a partnership between the food chain and the South Ward Children’s Alliance, a division of the BRICK Education Network.

Judith Spires, CEO of Kings Food Markets, said, ““Kings has long been a supporter of food insecurity solutions, and when the opportunity came up to partner with the South Ward Children’s Alliance and BRICK Education Network to support an entire community this Thanksgiving, we jumped at it."

Kings Food Market will also host a pre-Thanksgiving cooking class for families served by the South Ward Children's Alliance to give them all the training they need to prepare a delicious holiday meal.

Meal tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis and families will be able to retrieve tickets no later than noon on Nov. 22. For more information, contact Leo Davis of the South Ward Children’s Alliance at ldavis@brickeducation.org.

Dominique Lee, Founder and CEO of the BRICK Education Network, said. “Unfortunately, many of the families and students we serve across our schools, Achieve Clinton Hill and Marion P. Thomas Charter, and through our social services support division, South Ward Children’s Alliance, lack access to high-quality food options on a consistent basis. Through this amazing partnership with Kings Food Markets, we have the ability to provide our families the opportunity to gather around the table with family and friends and enjoy a healthy meal this holiday season.”

She added: “We hope this gesture will help to lessen the burdens our families face as they do their best to provide for their children in the midst of food insecurities during this festive time.”

The Kings’ Act Against Hunger Campaign drive is being held Nov. 1 through 4 in all 23 Kings Food Market stores in New Jersey.
