'Extensive Damage', Flooding From Ida Suspends NJ Transit Rail Service Almost Everywhere

Some light rail and bus services are up and running, but flooding and damage from the storm are expected to cause delays and cancellations.

NEW JERSEY — NJ Transit service has been suspended on almost every line across the state after Ida brought severe flooding and caused damage in New Jersey on Wednesday.

The Atlantic City Rail Line is the only one in the state running with full service — and on time to boot — but light rail services and buses have begun reinstituting limited transportation.

Newark's light rail service has resumed on the Broad Street Extension and on the Mainline between Branch Brook Park and Warren Street Stations with "residual delays resulting from current storm impacts."

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service is running with "weather related delays" on a modified weekend schedule. Substitute bus service is being provided between stops that are inaccessible, officials said, and system-wide cross honoring is in effect.

Light rail service is also available on the River LINE, but "significant delays and cancellations" are expected. Buses are also running, but severe flooding across the state has closed roads, so delays and cancellations are certainly a possibility.

AccessLink service is fully operational in Regions 2, 3, 4 and 5, and will open in Region 6 beginning at 11 a.m.

Though some services are up and running, delays will likely be inevitable due to the immense flooding and damage seen across the state. In Oradell, video posted by NJ Transit shows flooding at the bus garage.

And on the Montclair-Boonton Line near Little Falls, crews are assessing "extensive damage."
