Oakland Man Found Squatting In Vacant Wyckoff House: Police

Police found belongings with identification tags on them inside the home, authorities said.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Police discovered that an Oakland man was squatting in a vacant township house recently.

Police were checking on the house at about 1:45 a.m. June 29. They found evidence of forced entry and found personal items with identification tags on them, said Lt. Joseph Soto.

Authorities investigated and an arrest warrant for burglary and criminal trespassing was issued for Peter McElkenny, 43, Soto said.

Oakland police took McElkenny into custody on July 11, and he was transferred to Wyckoff Police Headquarters. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a court date, Soto said.
