Rubenstein Steps Down From Wyckoff Township Committee, Effective Immediately

WYCKOFF, NJ — Wyckoff Township Committee member Melissa Rubenstein announced her resignation late Friday, effective immediately.

Rubenstein served residents over the past five years as a committee member and as the township's second-ever female mayor. Her decision to resign, she said in a Facebook post, was entirely based on her wanting to be there for her children and business.

A mother to two children, Rubenstein is a realtor at Christie's International Real Estate Group, based out of its Ridgewood headquarters, according to a bio on the company's website.

"I've come to a moment where I feel I need to put my family and career before everything else, including my service to Wyckoff," Rubenstein said in a letter addressed to town colleagues.

Elected by her fellow committee members in 2021 to serve as mayor, Rubenstein replaced former Mayor Timothy Shanley, Patch previously reported. She and Nancy Drabik, elected in 1990, are the only two women to have held the post.

Rubenstein said that serving the town has been an "incredible experience" and a "privilege," and that she looks forward to contributing to the town in different ways.

"I treasure the knowledge I've gained from you all," she said. "Thank you to everyone who has made my time in office such a rewarding experience."
