Shoplifting Incidents, Drug-Related Arrests: Wyckoff Blotter

WYCKOFF, NJ - Wyckoff police responded to a number of calls between December 2019 and January 2020, including incidents involving shoplifting and drug-related arrests.

Failure to remove snow summons, drug-related arrest

On December 12, 2019 at approximately 11:40 AM, P.O. Robert Schlossberg was monitoring traffic on Route 208. He observed a gray Chevrolet Malibu with snow obstructing the rear window travelling northbound. The vehicle was stopped, and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old man from Liberty NY. He was transported into headquarters and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was also issued motor vehicle summonses for having a suspended drivers license, unsafe lane change, having unclear license plates, failure to provide a driver’s license and failure to remove snow or ice from a motor vehicle. He was released from headquarters pending a court date.

Alleged bank fraud

On January 2, 2020 at approximately 4:00 PM, Det. Sgt. Kasak and Det. Sgt. Ragucci responded to a local bank on a report of fraud. Upon arriving, the Detectives were advised that a male subject had entered the bank and attempted to cash a check that was suspected to be fraudulent. The bank had prior notification from another branch in Ramsey that a similar event occurred there earlier in the day and did not honor the check. Working with the bank’s fraud department and Ramsey Police, Det. Sgt. Kasak identified the subject as a 20-year-old man from New York,NY. On January 24, Det. Sgt. Kasak charged him with one count each of attempted theft by deception, forgery, and criminal simulation. He is scheduled to appear in court.

Shoplifting reported

On January 3, 2020 at approximately 11:30 AM, Wyckoff Patrol officers were dispatched to a local business on a report of a shoplifting that occurred earlier in the day. Responding officers investigated and identified a known offender with a prior history of shoplifting from the same business. Additionally, the suspect had been given prior notice that he was no longer welcome in the business. P.O. Michael Teegan charged a 48-year-old Wyckoff man with one count each of shoplifting and defiant trespass. He was served with the complaints and is scheduled to appear in court.

Drug-related arrest

On January 5, 2020 at approximately 2:00 AM, P.O. Michael Flim observed the driver of a Mitsubishi Montero operate the vehicle in an erratic manner on Wyckoff Avenue. The vehicle was stopped, and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Paterson woman. She was transported into headquarters and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to maintain a lane, driving with a suspended license, having an expired insurance document, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. She was processed and released pending a court date.

Fields damaged at Ramapo High School

On January 5, 2020 Det. Sgt. Ragucci received a report of criminal mischief that occurred at Eisenhower Middle School. It was reported that the driver of a red SUV drove onto the field, drove erratically and caused significant damage. While investigating, Det. Sgt. Ragucci discovered that a similar vehicle had also caused damage to the field at Ramapo High School. Working in conjunction with the Franklin Lakes Detective Bureau, a vehicle and suspect was identified. The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male resident of Warwick NY, was given a Stationhouse Adjustment by the Franklin Lakes Police Department. He and his parents agreed to the terms of the Adjustment and have agreed to make restitution to repair the damage to the fields. The estimate to repair Eisenhower’s field was approximately $2,500.00

Drug-related arrest

On January 9, 2020 at approximately 6:30 AM, P.O. Kyle Ferreira observed a suspicious vehicle parked on Lynch Place. The operator of the vehicle, a 25-year-old Wyckoff man was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. He also received motor vehicle summonses for having unclear license plates, tinted windows, failure to exhibit a valid registration card, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was released from headquarters pending a court date.

Fraudulent bank activity

On January 9, 2020 at approximately 3:20 PM, Det. Sgt. Kevin Kasak and Det. Sgt. Michael Ragucci with assistance from the Waldwick and Allendale Police investigated fraudulent activity at banks in the three towns. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Nanuet, NY. Richardson attempted to cash two fraudulent checks at a Wyckoff bank. He was charged with one count of attempted theft by deception, two counts of forgery, and one count of trafficking in personal identity information. He is scheduled to appear in court.

Drug-related arrest

On January 9, 2020 at approximately 5:30 PM, P.O. Kevin Oldewurtel stopped a green Ford Taurus on Route 208 Northbound after observing several violations. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old from Wanaque. He was transported into headquarters and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He also received motor vehicle summonses for having unclear license plates, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was released from headquarters pending a court date.

Shoplifting incident

On January 9, 2020 at approximately 9:00 PM, P.O. Terrence Murphy was dispatched to a local business on a report of shoplifter who was being detained. Upon his arrival, P.O. Murphy identified the shoplifter as a 48-year-old Wyckoff man. He had previously been given notice that he was no longer welcome at the business. P.O. Murphy placed him under arrest and transported him into headquarters. He was charged with one count each of shoplifting and defiant trespass. He was released pending a court date.

Drug-related arrest, warrant arrest

On January 10, 2020 at approximately 7:30 PM, P.O. Joseph Fullam observed a red Nissan Pathfinder travelling on Godwin Avenue. The vehicle had an inoperative tail lamp and the driver made an improper turn. The vehicle was stopped, and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of a 49-year-old Orange woman She was transported into headquarters and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to observe a traffic signal, maintenance of lamps, driving with a suspended license, and being unlicensed to operate a motor vehicle. Her passenger, a 50-year-old male resident of Orange NJ, was found to have an outstanding warrant from the Orange Police Department. They were contacted and released him on his own recognizanc. She was released from custody pending a court date.

Stolen driver's license reported

On January 13, 2020 Det. Sgt. Kevin Kasak received a report concerning the theft of a driver’s license. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old woman from Wyckoff. She was charged with one count of receiving stolen property and is scheduled to appear in court.

Shoplifting arrest

On January 19, 2020 at approximately 1:15 PM, Wyckoff Patrol units were dispatched to a local business on a reported shoplifting. The management of the business provided the officers with a description of the suspect and she was located inside of an adjoining business and taken into custody. A 47-year-old Wyckoff woman was transported into headquarters and charged with one count of shoplifting. She was given formal notice that she is no longer welcome to enter the business and released from headquarters pending a court date.
