Wyckoff Restaurant Owner Arrested For Ignoring Subpoena: Feds
A Wyckoff restaurant owner was arrested on the grounds that he had refused to cooperate with federal investigators, the department said.
WYCKOFF, NJ — A Wyckoff-based restaurant franchise owner stands accused of ignoring a subpoena for pay records, and court orders enforcing compliance, the U.S. Department of Labor said in a news release.
Samad Uddin, the owner of Manhattan Halal Gyro King, was arrested on the grounds that he had refused to cooperate with federal authorities and withheld records requested as part of a compliance investigation into the employer's pay practices, the department said.
The owner of the franchise, which operates three locations in Bergen County, was accused of withholding information about pay practices. He then failed to comply with an administrative subpoena and subsequent court orders, one of which imposed a $1,000-a-day fine, asking for the records, the department said.

In March 2022, the department's Solicitor Office asked the New Jersey District Court to have Uddin taken into custody and remain there until he complied with the subpoena and court order. On Monday, the request was approved, and Uddin was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service, the department said.
“The use of U.S. Marshals by a federal court also proves that we will use every available instrument to show employers are not above the law," the department's New York Regional Solicitor Jeffrey Rogoff said.
