Two Jersey Mike's Sandwich Shops Are Opening In Bergen County
Jersey Mike's sub shops are expanding rapidly, with 11 openings this week alone. See which are in Bergen County.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Whether you call your stuffed sandwich a sub, hoagie, or hero, you'll soon have two more mouth-watering places to get them, as one of the oldest sub shops in the Garden State is expanding rapidly.
Jersey Mike's Subs, which was founded decades ago at the Jersey Shore, announced Wednesday that it's opening 11 new stores this week alone, including one in Bergen County.
The shop at 120 River St. in Hackensack opened this week.

In addition, the company says, a shop is coming soon to 451 Hillsdale Ave. in Hillsdale.
The shop originated with a store called Mike's Subs, founded in Point Pleasant in 1956. The store was owned by two brothers.

In 1971, Peter Cancro, who had worked there since age 14, heard they were selling it. He raised enough money at age 17 to take it over, then grew the business.
