Update: Motorists to Follow Detours Around Franklin Avenue Closure
Busy thoroughfare to be closed starting Oct. 18 for rail crossing and PSE&G gas main work

The township has set the various detour routes to accommodate work on Franklin Avenue starting Oct. 18.
As detailed on Wyckoff Patch Thursday, police must close the road in both directions to allow crews from the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway to refurbish the rail crossing between Boulder Run and Town Hall. Meanwhile, the township has been informed that PSE&G work to replace a gas line on Franklin Avenue cannot wait until spring (police Chief Benjamin Fox had questioned its immediate necessity) and have coordinated work to coincide with the rail project so the road won't have to be closed for two periods of time.
Franklin is expected to be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Monday, Oct. 18 to Saturday, Oct. 30. While the rail work will be concentrated just off Town Hall, the utility work on the gas main will be located from Main Street to Everett Avenue.

As such, the road will be closed from the rail crossing to Godwin Avenue as well as from Wyckoff Avenue to Main Street for through traffic. Motorists traveling to their homes and/or the businesses along Franklin (including Boulder Run) will be allowed access, although there will be no access over the tracks from either direction.
Those traveling westbound on Franklin will be detoured to turn right onto Godwin Avenue, left onto Godwin Avenue, left onto Wyckoff Avenue and back to Franklin Avenue.

Those traveling eastbound will be prompted to turn left onto Wyckoff Avenue, right onto Greenwood and right onto Godwin Avenue.
As the PSEG crews progress toward Everett Avenue, the road detours will be modified to allow greater access for local traffic access.
Emergency vehicles will have access at all times. Additionally, the schools have been notified so bus drivers can avoid the area on their routes. Garbage and recycling along the affected stretch will be picked up from 6 to 7 a.m.
