Here are the top three stories today in Albuquerque:

  1. After a later summer and fall full of rain and garden growth, you may have a lot of leftover weeds, leaves, grass clippings, or other "green waste" bagged up in your yard. The City of Albuquerque offers a service to help residents get rid of green waste. Albuquerque’s Solid Waste Management Department will pick up green waste at no charge, from Monday, Nov. 28, until Friday, Dec. 9. (Subscription: Albuquerque Journal)
  2. Following the tragic death of a seven-year-old Albuquerque boy nearly a year ago outside the River of Lights event, the City of Albuquerque announced new safety regulations. According to Scott Blackledge, CABQ chief for the Metro Security Division, Central Avenue at Tingley Drive will be closed for pedestrian crossing during the River of Lights event. Crowds will be redirected underneath the Bosque bike trail. (KOB 4)
  3. On Saturday, 160 families were able to receive food for a Thanksgiving meal. A group of local businesses and nonprofits volunteered at the handout event. Co-owner of Trendz Beauty Supply, Christina Davis, helped to organize the event. Families were also able to receive gift cards. (KRQE News 13)

  • As part of a pop-up Thanksgiving promotion, through the end of November, come by and adopt any animal, regardless of age, for just $25 at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society. The shelter is completely full and needs families to come adopt, puppies, kittens, and cats. Make this holiday season brighter with a new furry companion by your side. • There will be World Cup watch parties at Civic Plaza starting Nov. 21 at noon. Watch the action on a 16x30-foot high-definition video display at the Plaza. (City of Albuquerque via Instagram)
