Deal reached to turn tower near San Mateo and Central into affordable housing (koat.com) — A long-vacant 10‑story tower near San Mateo and Central in Albuquerque’s International District is slated to become Serenade at Park Central, a mixed‑income housing project with 110 units, including 41 affordable apartments. Construction is expected to start in early January with city support of about $2 million alongside $23 million in private funding, despite recent vandalism and a contained basement fire.

The project includes a new traffic signal, full intersection rebuild, and preparation for widening Dennis Chavez to four lanes. An informational meeting at Westgate Community Center this Thursday will share details as officials seek funding to start construction by late summer or early fall.
   

4. Giving Trees around Albuquerque allow the community to give to children in need (kunm.org) — Albuquerque residents can help local students in need this holiday season by choosing tags from Giving Trees at Michael Thomas Coffee in Nob Hill or Heart & Sole Sports on San Mateo. Each tag lists a child’s sizes and small wishlist, and gifts must be returned in labeled gift bags by December 17 so organizers can ensure every student gets what they need.
   

5. New Mexico State Police Announces Graduation of 106th Recruit Class (grantcountybeat.com) — Eighteen new New Mexico State Police officers will graduate in a ceremony set for December 19 at 4701 Wyoming Blvd NE in Albuquerque. The recruits, who trained for months in physical, academic, and scenario-based skills, will now serve communities across the state from Santa Fe and Taos to Silver City and Clovis.
