Post Office is ok with Scammers receiving checks at PO BOX

Apparently, while using the post office to commit fraud is illegal the post office feels it is ok as long as the scammers pay for a pobox.

On 4/26/24 I received a scam call .

The caller stated they were from "the tv service company".

They stated they were calling to "fix" my cable box.

As normal, I proceeded to waste their time.

They made up some lies that they were updating my tv boxes. ( I do not have any tv boxes).

They asked how many tvs I have and how much is my tv bill. I made up numbers. then they said they could save me money. To do this, I would need to send advance payment to them. They stated I would receive a normal bill then next month then no bills for 4 months after that. To get the fantastic deal requires me to mail a check to their po box in the Albuquerque New Mexico USA !

I thought, wow it would be easy to alert authorities , who could easily look at the pobox application, control the box, deal with police for the fraud being done through the po box.

I Tried calling the post office location at 505-346-0985. That was useless at the employees there do not answer the phone.

I than called the post master at 505-346-8351 to report this. They told me to not expect it to be looked into a the scammer was not sending mass mailings through the mail system to scam people. I pointed out the scammer was deceiving people to mail checks THROUGH the mail system to a POST OFFICE po box!

I googled the address scammer gave and saw numerous people posting this was a scam even from LAST YEAR. So the post office ignored the scam because they like to receive income from people spending money on stamps and the scammer paying $300 per year for the po box?

The scammers tell people to make the check payable to "Cable TV". The Dollar amounts are generally around $300 . I heard at least 5 distinct voices at the scammer call center. If the $300 was the only thing the scammers were getting and if each scammer deceived only 10 people per day, that would be $15,000 PER DAY . If using only 260 days worked per year, that would be $3,900,00 PER Year being STOLEN through Fraud.

Now lets look at what the victims can expect in the future.

Since victims are sending a check to scammers, now scammer can print their own checks and steal more money later. The scammers also asked me for debit card number which also includes a pin number. So victims can look forward to future losses by a scammer assisted by the post office.

Just so the post office can make $300 for the PO BOX, and make $9,000 in stamps.
