'19 Elephants': Babylon Village Collects 72 Tons of Trash
Over the last month, Babylon's Litter Response Team collected 72 tons of litter, the weight of 19 elephants.
BABYLON VILLAGE, NY – The Town of Babylon has been cleaning up its streets—literally.
Over the last month, Babylon's Litter Response Team collected 72 tons of litter and debris—enough to fill two and a half garbage trucks and is equal to the weight of 19 elephants.
So far, the team has assisted with cleaning up over 150 locations, including the one pictured at Straight Path and 6th Street in West Babylon.

According to the town, its crews have been inspired to clean up its streets, because "when family or friends are coming off the Southern State Parkway to visit, they shouldn't be greeted by mounds of litter," the town wrote on its Facebook page.
