3 Hurt, 1 Critically, in DWI Crash on Southern State: Police

The crash occurred Saturday night. A 63-year-old man is charged with DWI.

BAY SHORE, NY – A 68-year-old man was critically injured and two other people suffered non-life threatening injuries in a two-car crash on the Southern State Parkway Saturday night, State Police said.

Troopers responded to the crash on the westbound portion of the parkway at Exit 41N in Bay Shore around 8:52 p.m.

According to police, a 2017 Honda Accord with two occupants and a 2011 Toyota Prius also with two occupants collided in the right lane while both vehicles were traveling westbound. The collision caused the Honda to overturn and slide on its roof before coming to a stop in the left lane. The Toyota made a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the parkway.

The driver of the Honda, 63-year-old George C. Farley, of Centerport, was transported to Southside Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said he displayed signs of alcohol impairment. His passenger, 68-year-old Robert Dobbins, of West Babylon, was severely injured and transported to Southside Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The male driver of the Toyota, who police did not name, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital. His passenger did not sustain any injuries.

Farley was arrested for DWI and is awaiting arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.
