BAY SHORE, NY — The Suffolk County Police Department's Hate Crimes Unit is investigating a possible hate crime after vandals spraypainted two boats with racial graffiti at the Bay Shore Marina on August 6.

“There is an ongoing investigation by SCPD. The Town stands ready to cooperate in any way possible," said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "We have absolute zero tolerance for this type of behavior."

While the details of the graffiti remain undisclosed, a town representative said it happened with marina security measures in place, which include state-of-the-art license plate readers, video cameras and a round-the-clock booth guard. In addition, town officials have increased patrols by rangers and Harbor Patrol Units.
