BROOKLYN, NY — Two separate sex assaults, both of them extremely violent and allegedly perpetrated by strangers in the wee hours of night, were reported to North Brooklyn cops last weekend.

One of the alleged attackers was arrested Monday, according to the NYPD. The two men responsible for the second attack, however, are still at large.

In the first attack, around 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, a 34-year-old woman said she was raped in front of 1086 Greene Avenue, between Goodwin Place and Broadway in Bushwick.

A police source told Patch that a 30-year-old man approached the victim on Greene Avenue; assaulted her physically; stole her wallet, cellphone and $30 cash; stripped her naked and raped her with his fingers. The woman was hospitalized at Brookdale Hospital in Brownsville for a fractured skull.

Bushwick resident Cory Washington, 30 — located by police through an anonymous tip — has since been arrested and charged with rape, robbery, assault, sex abuse and forcible touching, according to the NYPD.

The rape took place less than half a mile from Washington's reported residence.

In the second attack, around 1 a.m. on Monday, May 2, on Quincy Street between Malcolm X Boulevard and Patchen Avenue in Bed-Stuy, two unidentified men pushed a 25-year-old woman to the ground and tried to pull off her pants, police said.

Although both suspects are believed to weigh more than 250 pounds, the young woman was able to fight them off, a police spokesman told Patch.

The NYPD has described the two attempted rapists in the Bed-Stuy attack as black men standing around 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing 250 and 260 pounds, respectively. Their victim remembered the heavier one as having worn a dark-colored jacket during the Sunday-night assault.

Anyone with information about the crime or the suspects is encouraged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit an anonymous tip online.

Not including the April 30 attack, here have been seven rapes in Bushwick so far this year — the same amount as during the same time period last year, according to NYPD statistics. And in the eastern half of Bed-Stuy, where the May 2 attack occurred, police counted 5 rapes through the end of April — one more than last year.
