Bed-Stuy Bike Shop Seeks Community Support After 2 Break-Ins

The Fulton Street shop has set up a GoFundMe to help recover the thousands of dollars lost.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A local bike shop is reaching out to the community for help after it was broken into twice in the last month.

Bed-Stuy Bike Shop, which is found on Fulton Street in Restoration Plaza, lost thousands of dollars in damages and stolen property after an Oct. 28 break in and was broken into a second time only a few weeks later, according to a GoFundMe.

The business, which has been in Bed-Stuy for two years, is hoping to raise $15,000.

"This was devastating to us, as we are a small worker-owned business that prides itself on providing affordable bike service for everyone," they wrote on the fundraiser.

The fundraiser, set up earlier this week, had raised $3,400 of its goal as of Thursday afternoon.

The bike shop is not the first Bed-Stuy business to seek help from neighbors after an incident at its storefront. Earlier this year, queer-owned bar C'Mon Everybody on Franklin Avenue was able to raise $5,000 after a brick was thrown through the store's window.

Owners at the bike shop said they are hoping to host fundraising parties and offer shop perks in the future for those that give donations.

"Given the direness of our situation we decided to put this fundraiser together as quickly as we could, but as the campaign continues we will keep you updated with future shop perks and rewards for your donations," they wrote.

Donors should check back in with the fundraiser for updates, they said.
