Famed 'Sherita' Image on Bed-Stuy Billboard Painted Over: Reddit

BED-STUY, N.Y. – A well-known image of a dinosaur, which has been on a billboard above an Atlantic Avenue tire shop for seemingly decades, was painted over earlier this week, according to social media posts.

Neighbors pointed out on Reddit and Facebook groups that “Sherita,” the name of the dinosaur pictured on the billboard, had been painted over as early as Monday.

Commenters on the r/Brooklyn Reddit page shared their thoughts on the news.

One reddit user said “I lived across the street from her for 7 years! She will be missed.”

Some users commented, “RIP to an icon” and “ “Rest in power, queen.”

Others on the Reddit page also discussed the mysterious origins of the painting, with one user speculating that: “Sherita was meant to be a mascot for this heating oil company and Sherita being a dinosaur is a play on the idea of “fossil fuels.” I’d love to know the real story, though!”
