Myrtle Avenue Eatery Named Among Best Ramen In NYC: Ranking

The restaurant, found on the Bed-Stuy border, landed on a Eater's list of "29 Bowls of Ramen to Chase Away the Chill in NYC."

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Bed-Stuy residents won't have to go far to warm up with a bowl of "captivating" ramen this winter, according to a new ranking.

Ramen from a restaurant on the neighborhood's border was recently named among Eater's list of the best "29 Bowls of Ramen to Chase Away the Chill in NYC."

The Myrtle Avenue spot, found just a few blocks into Clinton Hill, was one of only eight ramen spots in Brooklyn that made the list. Eater praised the restaurant, U-gu, for its sushi and ramen selections.

Other Brooklyn spots on the list include three in Park Slope, one in East Williamsburg, one in Greenpoint, one in Sunset Park and one in Brooklyn Heights.

The food outlet's Alex Staniloff noted that this year's ramen selections include new variations on the ramen phenomenon, which first hit New York City in its current form with Momofuku Noodle Bar in 2004.

"...The city's enthusiasm for the carefully made wheat noodles in a pork, chicken, or vegetarian broth has only grown," Staniloff wrote. "...Why have ramen restaurants fared so well during this era? Perhaps because these noodles are a fundamental comfort food, nourishing and soothing in times of stress."

Here's what Eater had to say about U-gu's offerings:

Ramen B at U-gu

541-B Myrtle Ave.

"This swinging sushi bar on the ground floor of a condo lies right across the street from the Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill. The sushi is better than average, and the ramen is equally good, with a couple of unexpected formulations. The spicy version of ramen B is ignited with lots of chile paste in a powerful tonkotsu broth, with sausages and Spam as add-in options."
