UPDATE: Police Investigating the Stabbing Death of Woman on Lewis Ave

The victim of the stabbing homicide has been identified as Serena Matthews, 56, of 44 Lewis Avenue.

Police have arrested 23-year-old Markie Young of 44 Lewis Avenue in connection with the homicide. Young has been charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for the stabbing death of a woman late Tuesday night on Lewis Avenue.

According to police reports, on Tuesday, February 19, at approximately 11:13 p.m., 79th Precinct police responded to a 911 call of a female stabbed inside of 44 Lewis Avenue, between Myrtle and Vernon avenues.

Upon arrival, officers observed a female, 56, with stab wounds to her torso.

Emergency personnel rushed the victim to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.

One suspect has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
