The National Weather Center has issued a Tornado Watch for the tristate area until 8p.m. Wednesday.
New York counties that may be in the path of severe weather include Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Rain and thunderstorms are especially likely between 3p.m. and 5p.m. The wind may be damaging.
Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Richmond, Westchester and Rockland counties have also been put on watch.
