POLL: How Do You Feel About U.S. Olympic Uniforms Being Made in China

Lawmakers expressed their anger this week on the fact that uniforms for U.S. Olympic athletes were made in China, according to an article by the Associated Press.

Republicans and Democrats spoke out against the U.S. Olympic Committee's decision to dress the U.S. team in berets, blazers and pants that were manufactured in China while the American textile industry struggles due to the economy, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-New York) called on the U.S. Olympic Committee to abandon their current uniforms and replace them with uniforms made in the United States, and even suggested a Rochester-based suit maker be chosen as the new outfitter.

“Our Olympians don’t train their entire lives to don Chinese uniforms,” said Schumer.

In a statement released this week, the U.S. Olympic Committee defended their choice of designer Ralph Lauren for the uniforms of the London Games.

"Unlike most Olympic teams around the world, the U.S. Olympic Team is privately funded and we're grateful for the support of our sponsors," USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said in a statement. "We're proud of our partnership with Ralph Lauren, an iconic American company, and excited to watch America's finest athletes compete at the upcoming Games in London."
