Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. The city recently kicked off $109 million worth of renovations and upgrades to Brooklyn Parks. The $417 million citywide project will go to over 104 projects, including 29 in Brooklyn alone. The single largest investment is a $20.3 million allocation to reconstruct the Brownsville Recreation Center. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. A new cafe on Park Slope's Fifth Avenue has replaced a bike shop near the corner of 17th Street. Cafe Rose Petals opened at 610 Fifth Ave., boasting a large menu of sandwiches, salads, and drinks, many of which are health conscious. The new eatery has already received some positive feedback from its neighbors. (Patch)
  3. Bed-Stuy will receive a free community fridge as a part of an Earth Day initiative led by local appliance company, AJ Madison. The company's Vice President of Marketing Amy Chernoff said, "Our goal is to increase awareness around food insecurity and provide more visibility for community refrigerator projects." AJ Madison is planning to give out over 100 free fridges across the country. (Patch)
