Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. A 12-year-old boy was fatally shot while sitting inside a parked car with his family on Thursday night. The child and two relatives had pulled over near Linden Boulevard to eat when their car was hit with gunfire hitting the boy and the 20-year-old woman multiple times. The child was pronounced dead at the scene while the other victim was transported to a hospital where she is expected to survive. (Patch)
  2. A Brooklyn debt collection firm is being sued for millions by the Attorney General's office. The $6.8 million lawsuit was filed on Thursday against Balsamo, Rosenblatt, & Hall, citing "frivolous" and "deceptive" practices. The firm is accused of abusive debt collection practices. (Patch)
  3. Permits have been filed for 545 Coney Island Ave. in Kensington. The seven-story mixed-use building will yield 51,026 square feet of residential space across 74 units, and 3,267 square feet of commercial space. An estimated date of completion has not yet been announced. (New York YIMBY)
