2 Firefighters Injured In Blaze At All-Wood Brooklyn Building: FDNY

All four residences in a Brooklyn building were damaged in a quickly-spreading fire Thursday morning, authorities said.

GOWANUS, NY — A fast-moving fire burned through a wood building in Gowanus Thursday morning, leaving two firefighters with minor injuries, authorities said.

The fire started just before 11 a.m. at a 4-residence building on 9th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, according to the FDNY.

The flames started on the building's second floor and quickly traveled to the third, eventually spreading to the building to its right via a shared cockloft, according to a representative of the FDNY.

Two firefighters were transferred to an area hospital with minor knee injuries, according to the FDNY.

No residents were injured, but all four of the building's residences were damaged, authorities said. The Red Cross would help relocate the residents.

The FDNY was on the scene within three minutes of the call and attacked the fire "very aggressively, very deliberately," authorities said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The building itself is over 100 years old and entirely made of wood, authorities said.
