2-Year-Old Found Dead, Beat In Brooklyn: NYPD

Police say the mother's boyfriend beat the toddler to death in his Bergen Beach apartment.

BERGEN BEACH, NY — A toddler was fatally beat by his mother's boyfriend in Brooklyn, according to police and reports.

Latrell Lewis, 23, faces murder charges after the 2-year-old on Sunday was found unconscious and bruised in Lewis's Brooklyn home on 68th Street near Avenue U, according to the NYPD.

Police told the New York Daily News Lewis had thrown the baby on the floor at least one time.

The 2-year-old was rushed to an area hospital about 11:57 p.m. with injuries to his head and bruising on his stomach, police say.

Lewis was arrested a day later.

Lewis was not the baby's biological father but the mother's boyfriend, according to the NYPD and New York Daily News.

Police were investigating the death as a homicide.
