3 Miles, 2 Slices: Runners Lap Brooklyn Park For Pizza Run (PHOTOS)

A giant slice of pizza ran around Fort Greene Park Sunday afternoon for a very cheesy 5K race.

FORT GREENE, NY — Brooklyn's athletes run on pizza.

Empty pizza boxes stacked as runners lapped around Fort Greene Park Sunday, stopping only for a slice of 'za during the 13th annual NYC Pizza Run.

Spanning only 3.1 miles, runners were tasked with eating a slice of pizza from Table 87 on each lap around the park — cheesy fuel to send them over the finish line.

Dozens of runners donned pizza-themed shirts, temporary tattoos and costumes to fight for a number of special prizes: including tickets to BagelFest in October and a pizza recipe book.

The race was at full capacity, and some of the registration proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, organizers said.
