Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- Aaron Mostofsky has been sentenced to 8 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riot. The son of Brooklyn Judge Steven Mostofsky, the 35-year-old was one of the first arrested after he became the subject of a meme in the wake of the insurrection. The online evidence that implicated Mostofsky became one of the key pieces that led to his arrest. (Patch)
- A pair of swastikas were spray-painted across a Brooklyn bus stop, one covering an advertisement that denounced antisemitism. The awareness ad in Boro Park was displayed in response to the rise in Jewish hate crimes throughout the city, and was defaced on Thursday with a can of white paint. The NYPD is still investigating this incident, as the suspect remains unknown. (Yahoo News)
- NYPD officers shot and wounded a man who was wielding a machete, and threatening a motorist over a parking spot. The incident involved the suspect chasing police officers around the parked vehicle on W. 8th Street, before one officer suffered a deep cut to his thumb. While the chase ensued, one officer shot four times, hitting the assailant once in the leg. (Yahoo News)
