Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- Abortion rights supporters took to the streets on Saturday, marching over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan as part of the Bans Off Our Bodies March. The nationwide effort included rallies in major cities such as Washington D.C., Chicago, and many others. Organizers emphasized that the purpose is to show that an overwhelming majority of Americans support reproductive rights. (CBS New York)
- Two teenagers were hospitalized on Friday night when a dispute at a Brooklyn NYCHA building led to a shooting. The NYPD were searching for the suspect who opened fire on the 15 and 16 year old boys, both of whom were in stable condition and expected to survive. Just after 10:30 p.m., police responded to the scene at The Sumner Houses in Bed-Stuy. (NBC New York)
- A special music program is helping young aspiring Brooklyn musicians in an NYCHA development. The new program, called From Blocks to Beats, launched at the Tompkins Houses, and is designed for young NYCHA residents between the ages of 16-26 years old. The program offers six hours each week, plus a special music showcase each Friday. (msnNOW)
- A fire in Sheepshead Bay left 15 people injured, including three firefighters. The blaze broke out just before 4 a.m. on Saturday morning at a seven-story building on Homecrest Avenue. More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene, and were able to bring the fire under control just after 5 a.m. (WABC-TV)
- Police are searching for a pair of suspects wanted for slashing and robbing a man in Brooklyn in April. Surveillance footage shows the two men punching, slashing, and robbing the 32-year-old victim on April 18 near Fulton Street and Bedford Avenue in Bed-Stuy. The suspects stole the victim's jacket, backpack and camera, and remain at large. (CBS New York)
