Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. A 31-year-old man was beaten and robbed by a group of unidentified people at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway station. At about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, the victim was approached by one person who asked him for money to purchase a metro card. Immediately after, three other individuals attacked the man, and stole around $1,700 dollars from him. (Patch)
  2. A man was found dead on a park bench on Wednesday morning. Police responded to a 911 call in Sunset Park near Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, where they found the 44-year-old man. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, as the Medical Examiner works to determine the cause of death. (Patch)
  3. A local Carrol Gardens eatery is making an impression on the neighborhood after being open for only three weeks. Café Spaghetti, located at 126 Spring St., is serving up traditional Italian cuisine with an updated approach. The desserts have proven to be a menu highlight along with the pasta and appetizers.   4. A former Brooklyn resident has been convicted of recruiting fighters for the Islamic State. Misrad Kandic, 40, will face life in prison after initially traveling to Syria in 2013, and helping other volunteers from Western countries join the terrorist group. Kandic was arrested in Bosnia in 2017 and extradited to the United States. (Reuters)
  5. A man who is visually impaired was rescued from an oncoming train last week in East New York. Suleiman Rifai, 61, had fallen onto the tracks of an oncoming A train, and was pulled to safety by two NYPD officers, Officer Jason Macaluso and Detective Henry Greco. Both officers were honored and named "Heroes of the Subway." (Patch)
