Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- The search has begun for 12-year-old Kayla Hill who went missing on Wednesday. Hill, who witnessed her mother fatally shot by her father two years ago, apparently told friends that she was planning to take a bus from Port Authority to Vancouver, Washington, where she once lived with her family. She has been living with her maternal grandmother in Bay Ridge after the loss of her parents in 2019. (WPIX 11 New York)
- Nikki Lucas won the special election for East New York’s 60th Assembly District seat on Tuesday night, defeating Keron Alleyne by a substantial margin. Unofficial tallies show Lucas capturing 79.32 percent of the vote. She solidified her strong position by earning key endorsements such as Mayor Eric Adams and Attorney General Letitia James. (Brooklyn Paper)
- The Department of Buildings was called to inspect the three-story residential building at 486A Decatur St. for structural stability, where they discovered a deceased person among the debris. A second individual was taken to the hospital, and inspectors relayed that the debris was so excessive that they had difficulty getting indoors to even conduct the inspection. A full vacate order was issued, and the owner was handed a violation for the failure to maintain the property.
