🌱 Gunfire At Coney Island Boardwalk + Brooklyn Back-To-School Event

Here are the top four stories in Brooklyn today:
- Just before midnight on Saturday, Aug. 27, gunfire erupted at the Coney Island boardwalk n Brooklyn. The NYPD said there were five victims, including a 42-year-old man who was shot in the back and later pronounced dead. The other victims were a 49-year-old woman shot in the leg, a 34-year-old woman shot in the foot, a 46-year-old man shot in the leg, and an unidentified man also shot in the leg. The NYPD is investigating; as of Aug. 28, there have been no arrests. (WLS-TV)
- On Saturday night, Aug. 27, a 51-year-old Brooklyn man was fatally shot in the lobby of the Linden Houses building on Wortman Avenue, near Van Siclen Avenue. The NYPD said one year ago there was another fatal shooting in the same entryway of the Brooklyn NYCHA complex. The victim was shot multiple times in the chest and rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made as of Aug. 28. - On Saturday, Aug. 27, Brooklyn community groups hosted a back-to-school bash at the Atlantic Terminal Mall Plaza. The event included a bouncy house, free wellness checks, free dental screenings, free haircuts, a backpack giveaway, and more. New York City Councilmember Rita Joseph said, "It's important to support families. As a former educator, I know how tough it is. So we're here today in community, supporting community." - On Sunday morning, Aug. 28, at around 5:00 a.m., 44-year-old Tarci Lysius was shot in the head at the Hearts of Love event space, a "party house" located at 275 Liberty Avenue in Brooklyn. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead. The NYPD said another woman shot Lysius during a dispute; no arrests have been made as of Aug. 28. (New York Post)
