BROOKLYN, NY — A man accused of luring five women to his Brooklyn apartment to kidnap, rob and sexually assault them was indicted Wednesday on federal charges, prosecutors announced.

Chad Barclay, 30, faces a slew of charges — interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping and witness tampering — following his arrest in May, according to Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Breon Peace.

"The defendant is a dangerous criminal who sexually assaulted and robbed multiple vulnerable women while using fear to make them his prisoners,” Peace said in a statement.

The kidnappings go back as far as September 2022, prosecutors said.

Barclay locked at least five women, some of whom he found through an escort service, in his home then forced them to unlock their phones, prosecutors contend.

He then sent himself thousands of dollars, prosecutors contend.

Barclay often used personal information, like kids or family members, to "coerce" women into compliance, prosecutors said.

Barclay often took the women's bank cards and made ATM withdrawals, according to Peace.

The 20-count indictment filed in federal court outlines other crimes, including aggravated identity theft against a man, prosecutors said

And prosecutors still think there could be more — the FBI continued their search for victims and encouraged anyone with information to contact authorities.
