BROOKLYN, NY - A Brooklyn man was struck and killed on Linden Boulevard Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call of a collision involving a pedestrian struck at Linden Boulevard and Ashford Street just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.

The major intersection was fitted with pedestrian marking upgrades and median tip extensions in 2020, although the same intersection still reported 17 crashes in the last year, with seven pedestrian and 15 motorist injuries, according to city stats.

Two pedestrians have died at the intersection in the 10 years since the city's Vision Zero plan, a De Blasio-era initiative aiming to lower traffic deaths on city streets, began. 96 total crashes have been reported in the area in the last decade, resulting in 24 pedestrian, five cyclist and 122 motorist injuries.

Linden Boulevard was designated a “priority corridor” in 2023 for pedestrian safety improvements after it was initially bestowed the title during the De Blasio administration, according to city documents obtained by Patch.

The corridor is considered one of the most deadly for pedestrians based on deaths or severe injuries per mile, according to a report from last year, though seldom has changed at Linden Boulevard and Ashford Avenue since the 2020 upgrades.
