- The Bensonhurst-based New Era Democrats, a Brooklyn political club, is now endorsing Republican Lee Zeldin for N.Y. governor. The club has a history of supporting Democrats like former Mayor Bill de Blasio. John Orlando, the club president, said the group is backing Zeldin because "there has to be a change." (New York Daily News)
- Brooklyn native, actor on HBO's "The Sopranos," and "A Chorus Line," and Tony nominee Robert LuPone died at age 76 after a three-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. LuPone was born on Jul. 29, 1946, in Brooklyn and graduated from Juilliard School with a BFA in Dance in 1968. He is well-known for his role as Dr. Bruce "Cooze" Cusamano, Tony Soprano's doctor in "The Sopranos." (New York Post)
- On Sunday night, Aug. 28, three males were injured in a vehicle crash at Coney Island Avenue and Avenue W. in Brooklyn. A 16-year-old operating a 2021 Jiajue JJ150T-40 motorcycle with a 15-year-old boy passenger collided with a 2022 Nissan Altima driven by a 23-year-old man. All three people were taken to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. The 16-year-old and 23-year-old are listed in stable condition with minor injuries, while the 15-year-old is in critical condition with severe head trauma. (AMNY)
- Yesterday morning, Aug. 29, firefighters responded to a fire at Pink Houses, located at 1307 Loring Avenue in Brooklyn. The FDNY's Hazmat Company was able to confiscate and contain the battery of an e-bike, which may have caused the fire. One resident was taken to Brookdale Hospital for their injuries. (AMNY)
- A 26-year-old nursing student in Brooklyn won $1 million after ordering $10 worth of Cash4Life lottery tickets on her phone. She plans to use the prize money to clear her education debt, pay for her last year of studies in nursing school, help her family, and invest in the future. "I feel like I've got a lot of luck in my life," she said. "But winning this was a whole new world to me." (PR Newswire)
