Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- A man was found fatally shot in his Blake Avenue apartment with a gunshot wound to his head on Sunday night. The 28-year-old victim, Andrew Cruz, was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. There have been no arrests made as the investigation remains ongoing. (Audacy)
- A teenager was arrested in an alleged group attack of a Hasidic man in Brooklyn on Friday. Police did not release the name of the teen arrested, but the assault is being treated as a hate crime and is being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force. The 21-year-old victim was attacked by a group of six individuals and suffered minor injuries to his mouth. (CNN)
- Brooklyn has topped the city's boroughs in construction site violations over the past year. According to the Department of Buildings' Construction Safety Report, city inspectors issued 26,255 safety violations in 2021, up from 23,916 the year prior. In all, nine workers lost their lives on constructions sites last year, including three in Brooklyn. (Brooklyn Paper)
