Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- The NYPD are investigating a case in which a man was rolled into a Dyker Heights driveway in a hand truck and dumped on the premises. Home security footage revealed a man rolling the body into the rear part of the driveway at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The victim's identity was not immediately revealed, but initial investigations revealed no clear signs of trauma. (NBC New York)
- Brooklyn Grange treated 72 diners to a "compost dinner" last Wednesday evening, prepared only from food that would have otherwise been wasted. The Sunset Park establishment is a green rooftop farming business with 5.6 acres of farming area. Brooklyn Grange harvests over 100,000 pounds of produce every year. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso announced the second of three funding releases designed to address maternal mortality rates. The capital funding will allocate $18.5 million to the NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island women's health department. The funding will go towards enhancing the hospital's maternal health care services and reducing maternal mortality rates among Black women. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Piece of Cake Moving & Storage will be offering free ice cream to New Yorkers in Brooklyn and Queens this weekend as part of its Summer Smiles event. The event will launch on Sunday, July 31 on Water Street in DUMBO between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and will move to Bedford Avenue at 1:30 p.m. The cold treats will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.
