Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. A Brooklyn high school student was charged with phoning in one of three phony bomb threats to Fort Hamilton High School earlier this week. Dan Awadh, 18, was arrested on Thursday after he was linked to one of the calls made to his own school. Awadh lives just a few blocks from the Bay Ridge school. (Yahoo News)
  2. An East New York ZIP code has seen the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the borough as cases continue to rise city-wide. The 11239 ZIP, which includes Starrett City, had the highest seven-day average in Brooklyn at the end of last week. The city has been upgraded to high-alert for COVID-19 in recent weeks. (msnNOW)
  3. What would have been The Notorious B.I.G.'s 50th birthday is fast approaching. This Saturday, New Yorkers will celebrate in his home neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, and all across the city. Read here and find out how to celebrate the legendary artists' birthday. (Patch)
  4. A suspect is in custody after a man was found stabbed in Brooklyn early on Wednesday morning. At 7:56 a.m. on May 18, officers found 18-year-old Jahmet Wilson-Freeman at 98 Troy Ave. with a stab wound to his chest. Another 18-year-old was taken into custody as a suspect in the case as the investigation remains ongoing. (AMNY)
  5. The FDNY hosted the Second Chance Ceremony in Brooklyn on Wednesday. The emotional event reunited 10 survivors of cardiac arrests with the first responders who helped to save their lives. Responders and survivors convened at the Liberty Warehouse. (New York Daily News)
