Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
- A video showing NYPD officers arresting a street vendor for selling fruit in a Brooklyn subway station has sparked community outrage. Maria Falcon was put in handcuffs on April 29 at the Broadway Junction subway station, and the officers allegedly threw her products in the trash. The video was shared with The Street Vendor Project, who proceeded to share it on Twitter. (PIX 11 NY)
- A woman is in custody after causing an NYPD police car to slam into a pole and catch on fire. The 39-year-old driver allegedly sped past the officers while they were responding to a job and failed to yield to the patrol car. The suspect initially fled the scene but later returned and was arrested, while the two officers sustained only minor injuries. (NBC New York)
- A driver was killed after crashing into a NYC Department of Environmental Protection vehicle on the Belt Parkway. The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning, and the collision caused serious injuries to the three additional occupants in the driver's vehicle. The 20-year-old driver was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. (WABC-TV)
