Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade, Brooklyn's LGBTQ+ community is fearful of what the future could hold for LGBTQ+ rights. Councilmember Chi Ossé said, "It’s definitely scary. Not only Roe v. Wade but everything else that is potentially bound to come next." Ossé and others believe that the time is now to pass laws that would protect to LGBTQ+ community. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. Over a dozen headstones were vandalized at a historic cemetery in Brooklyn. Some of the damaged tombstones in the Flatbush cemetery date to the 1600s. Surveillance videos captured early on Tuesday morning show the suspect vandalizing the cemetery. (NBC New York)
  3. A new park was recently opened to the public in Williamsburg. 50 Kent at Bushwick Inlet Park unveiled its 1.89-acre layout, situated between North 11th and 12th streets. What began as a pop-up park is now a permanent installation. (Time Out)
  4. Police are searching for a man wanted for seven burglaries throughout Brooklyn. The robberies took place between May 19 and June 9 in Bath Beach, Homecrest, Gravesend, and Bensonhurst. The suspect has stolen over $1,700 worth of lottery tickets, $6,000 cash, and more. (ABC 7 NY)
  5. A pair of thieves successfully stole a purse that held around $25,000 after convincing the driver that her car had been struck by another vehicle. The robbery occurred on June 16 on Debevoise Street, when the 41-year-old victim exited her car to check for any damage. Police have released surveillance footage of the suspects, but no arrests have yet been made. (NBC New York)
