🌱 Brooklyn Man Arrested For NJ Shooting + Ten New Open Streets In BK

Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. A Brooklyn man was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting at the American Dream Mall earlier in April. Anwar Stuart, 20, shot a man in an attempted robbery at the East Rutherford, New Jersey, mall on April 7, and the mall was placed on lockdown. Stuart was arrested at his Brooklyn home on Monday and was held at Rikers before being extradited to New Jersey. (NBC New York)
  2. An additional 10 car-free Open Streets were announced in Brooklyn, bringing the total to 47. Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez said, "Open Streets was one of the few bright spots of the pandemic, and I am proud that we have found a way to support more streets in more diverse communities." The Open Streets program launched following the onset of the pandemic and has continued to expand. (Brooklyn Paper)
  3. Six alleged members of a Brooklyn-based gang were arrested on multiple gun, and fraud charges. The defendants are tied to the East New York gang known as "Bamalife," which is involved with ongoing rivalries with other local gangs. The individuals were arrested in connection with six non-fatal shootings that left 12 people injured. (AMNY)
