Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. The Brooklyn shooting suspect Frank James documented his travels from Wisconsin to the Northeast in a series of YouTube videos in recent weeks. The videos have since been removed, and a YouTube spokesperson stated that they were acting in accordance with their "creator responsibility guidelines." The videos include rambling speeches heavily laden with racist and misogynistic language, and clear references to violence. (CNN)
  2. Crown Heights residents have filed a lawsuit hoping to overturn the approval of a new development project at the Hebron Church site. The Sterling Place Block Association believes that the development would infringe upon the historic site, which was built in 1889. The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the project after a series of presentations, design modifications, and reductions in height. (Brooklyn Paper)
  3. A new synagogue and community center broke ground in Crown Heights at the corner of Union Street and Albany Avenue. The Bais Shmuel Chabad will contain religious worship and ceremonial spaces, event space, and a small community housing section. The new complex will be built upon a previously undeveloped 5,779-square-foot lot. (New York YIMBY)
